ANNISTON -- Former mayor and City Clerk Elva Justine McClendon, 69, of Anniston, died Tuesday, June 2, 1992, at Southeast Missouri Hospital in Cape Girardeau.

She was born July 19, 1922, at Diehlstadt, daughter of John G. and Mattie M. Council Williams. She married Henry McClendon Aug. 14, 1941.

McClendon was a retired bookkeeper for Hubco Muffler Co. and Economy Furniture Co. She was a member of Anniston Baptist Church.

Survivors include her husband; three sons, Ronnie McClendon of Cairo, Ill., Terry McClendon of Anniston, Rickey McClendon of Benson, Ariz.; four daughters, Judith Coffer and Betty Fridell of Charleston, Barbara Key of Grand Rivers, Ky., Kathy Groves of Scott City; two brothers, Earl Williams of Charleston, Cletus Williams of Wickliffe, Ky.; 12 grandchildren, and a great-grandchild.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, three brothers and a sister.

Funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Anniston Baptist Church. The Rev. Gordon Adank will officiate, with burial in Anniston Cemetery.

Friends may call at Shelby Funeral Home in East Prairie home after 5 p.m. today and until 9 a.m. Friday.
