McCLURE, Ill. -- Elveta P. Charles, 89, of Collierville, Tenn., formerly of McClure, Ill., died Tuesday, April 3, 2012, at the home of a daughter. She was born June 30, 1922, in Hindman, Ky., to Jasper and Florence Caudill Pratt. She and Vernon R. "Windy" Charles were married Aug. 14, 1943, in North Carolina. He died Sept. 14, 1986...

McCLURE, Ill. -- Elveta P. Charles, 89, of Collierville, Tenn., formerly of McClure, Ill., died Tuesday, April 3, 2012, at the home of a daughter.

She was born June 30, 1922, in Hindman, Ky., to Jasper and Florence Caudill Pratt. She and Vernon R. "Windy" Charles were married Aug. 14, 1943, in North Carolina. He died Sept. 14, 1986.

Elveta was a member of Lindsey Cemetery Association from 1986 to 2003. She was of the Baptist belief.

Survivors include a daughter, Patty Rainey of Collierville; two sons, Alvin Charles of Grand Junction, Tenn., Robert Charles of Cordova, Tenn.; a sister, Lauda Kerley of McClure; a brother, Pete Pratt of Dover, Del.; seven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, four brothers and two sisters.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to service time Saturday at Ford and Sons Sprigg Street Funeral Home.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Donny Ford officiating. Burial will be in Lindsey Cemetery in McClure.

Memorial contributions may be given to the Lindsey Cemetery Association.
