POCAHONTAS, Ark. -- Evie Henderson, 68, of Pocahontas, formerly of Olive Branch, Illinois, passed away Thursday, Sept. 9, 2021, at Flo and Phil Hospice House in Jonesboro, Arkansas.
She was born April 28, 1953, in Gideon, Missouri, the daughter of Walter and Susan Head Oakes.
Evie was a member of the Little Ole Country Church at Lick Creek, Illinois, and enjoyed being a certified nurse assistant at Saint Francis Medical Center. She would also, on her own time, come in to wash and fix patients' hair, with her main goal being to put a smile on their faces!
She is survived by a daughter, Tammy (Jason) Henry; two sons, Kevin Henderson and Scott (Deanna) Henderson; 10 grandchildren; four sisters, Brenda Reed, Linda Templeton, Patricia Kay Coleson and Judy Akridge; two brothers, L.G. Oakes and Glenn Oakes; and many other family members and friends.
Evie was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Vernon "Butch" Henderson; stepmother who raised her, Ellen Oakes; four brothers, Leeman, Ralph and David Oakes and Rickey Cobb; two sisters, Nellie and Joyce; and one great-grandchild.
Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday at Crain Funeral Home in Cape Girardeau.
Funeral will follow immediately at 1 p.m. with Brother Ken Wilson officiating. Interment will follow at the Rose Hill Cemetery in Thebes, Illinois.
