CAIRO, Ill. -- Frances W. Shemwell, 80, of Cairo, died Monday, July 5, 1993, at Cape LaCroix Nursing Home in Cape Girardeau, Mo.

She was born Jan. 26, 1913, at Poplar Bluff, Mo., daughter of Francis and Carrie Morrey Hathaway. She married Luther Cash Shemwell, who died in 1972.

Shemwell was retired owner of Shemwell's Barbecue in Cairo. She attended Cairo Baptist Church.

Survivors include a daughter, Jenny Shemwell of Cairo; a son, Darrell Shemwell of Cache; a brother, Rev. Ralph Hathaway of Poplar Bluff; three sisters, Nellie England, Violet Vinson and Juanita Raymer of Poplar Bluff; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Graveside service will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Poplar Bluff City Cemetery, with the Rev. Hathaway officiating.
