JONESBORO, Ill. -- George Waymon Ray, 92, of Jonesboro died Tuesday, May 1, 2007, at Chateau Girardeau in Cape Girardeau.

He was born April 23, 1915, in Murphysboro, Ill., son of Charles and Ella Mangrum Ray. He and Mable Bagby were married July 1, 1947, in Murphysboro.

Ray had worked at Choate Mental Health. He was a life member of Carroll P. Foster VFW Post 3455 in Anna, Ill., Jonesboro Masonic Lodge 111, Scottish Rite, Ainad Shriners, and Sword of Bunker Hill.

He served with the U.S. Army in the European Theater during World War II.

Survivors include his wife; a son, Terry Ray of Jonesboro; two brothers, Don and Jack Ray of Anna; and a sister, Dorothy Wood of Anna.

Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. today at Hileman Funeral Home.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Friday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Robert Fear officiating. Burial will be in St. John's Cemetery with military rites conducted by VFW Post 3455.
