SIKESTON -- Grover L. Abernathy, 75, of Sikeston, died Tuesday, July 11, 1995, at St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau.

He was born Oct. 6, 1919, in Zalma, son of Joseph Samuel and Sarah Elizabeth Phillips Abernathy. He married Eunice Ethelene Bailey Sept. 13, 1941, at Charleston.

Abernathy owned Abernathy Lime Co. in Sikeston and was a truck driver. He was a member of North Acres General Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife; a son, Leslie Abernathy with the U.S. Navy in San Diego, Calif.; a daughter, Patricia Dickie of East Moline, Ill.; a brother, Vendol "Joe" Abernathy of Morehouse; a sister, Del DeMent of Canton, Ga.; five grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.

Friends may call at Nunnelee Funeral Chapel from 5-8 p.m. today.

Funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the chapel, with the Rev. James Trotter officiating. Burial will be in Garden of Memories Cemetery.
