Harold "Red" Aufdenberg, 91, of Jackson passed away Friday, April 18, 2014, at the Missouri Veterans Home in Cape Girardeau, where he enjoyed being a resident since 2011. He was born March 11, 1923, in the Tilsit community, son of Albert and Frieda Best Aufdenberg Sr. He and Kathryn Miller were married April 18, 1954, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Tilsit. Kathryn passed away Sept. 12, 2000. He later married Alma Birk Mouser. She passed away Jan. 20, 2007...

Harold "Red" Aufdenberg, 91, of Jackson passed away Friday, April 18, 2014, at the Missouri Veterans Home in Cape Girardeau, where he enjoyed being a resident since 2011.

He was born March 11, 1923, in the Tilsit community, son of Albert and Frieda Best Aufdenberg Sr. He and Kathryn Miller were married April 18, 1954, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Tilsit. Kathryn passed away Sept. 12, 2000. He later married Alma Birk Mouser. She passed away Jan. 20, 2007.

Harold was baptized and confirmed at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Tilsit, transferring his membership to St. Paul Lutheran Church in 1957. He served in numerous church positions throughout the years.

He entered the United States Army in 1948 and was honorably discharged Nov. 25, 1951, serving in Japan and the Korean War.

He was employed by B.W. Aufdenberg Transfer Co. and Wagner Manufacturing in Jackson, and spent 38 years at Strickert Standard Service in Jackson, having co-owned the business for 20 years, retiring in the early 1990s. Harold was a member of Altenthal-Joerns American Legion Post No. 158 and the VFW No. 10495 in Jackson.

Loving survivors include two daughters, Joyce (Tim) Neal of Cape Girardeau and Jane (Kevin) Reisenbichler of Altenburg, Mo; three grandchildren, Matt Neal, Sara (Austin) Bock and Adam Reisenbichler; and five siblings, Marvin and Leon Aufdenberg of Burfordville and Albert Jr. and Robert Aufdenberg and Evelyn Gholson of Jackson.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Earl Aufdenberg.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today at the chapel of McCombs Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Jackson, and from 9 a.m. until time of service Tuesday at St. Paul Lutheran Church.

The funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the church, with the Rev. Robert Henrichs officiating. Interment will be in Russell Heights Cemetery in Jackson with full military honors.

Memorials may take the form of contributions to the General Funds of St. Paul Lutheran Church (Jackson), Immanuel Lutheran Church (Tilsit) or the Missouri Veterans Home Foundation.
