EAST PRAIRIE -- Funeral for Herschel Joseph Schneider of East Prairie will be held at 11 a.m. today at Shelby Funeral Home in East Prairie. Burl Britt will officiate, with burial in Dogwood Cemetery.

Schneider, 84, died Wednesday, April 8, 1998, at his home.

He was born Nov. 6, 1913, in the Sugartree Ridge community of New Madrid County, son of Adam and Eulah Lynch Schneider. He and Vivian Pearson were married Nov. 9, 1940.

Schneider lived most of his life in Mississippi County and was a retired farmer. He was a member of First General Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife; four sons, Hugh "Bob" Treadway of East Prairie, Murray Schneider of Warrenton, Herschel Schneider of St. Charles, Harry Schneider of O'Fallon; a daughter, Lois Berry of Lakeland, Fla.; two sisters, Helen Essary of Pevely, Thelma Williams of Poplar Bluff; 10 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by four brothers and two sisters.
