James Marlin Byassee, 71, of Scott City died Monday, March 6, 2006, at Southeast Missouri Hospital in Cape Girardeau. He was born Nov. 18, 1934, in Fulton, Ky., son of Horace James and Marie Humphrey Byassee. He first married Sharon Lee Santhuff Aug. 1, 1959. She died Nov. 3, 1995. James Marlin Byassee, 71, of Scott City died Monday, March 6, 2006, at Southeast Missouri Hospital in Cape Girardeau.

He was born Nov. 18, 1934, in Fulton, Ky., son of Horace James and Marie Humphrey Byassee. He first married Sharon Lee Santhuff Aug. 1, 1959. She died Nov. 3, 1995. He and Martha Lou O'Bryant Holder were married Dec. 13, 1997, in Scott City.

Byassee had been a truck driver with Benjamin Moore Paint Co.

He served with the U.S. Army during the Korean War.

Survivors include his wife; a son, Randy Byassee of Benton, Mo.; a daughter, Peggy Rulo of Benton; two stepsons, Norman Holder Jr. of Scott City, Robert Holder of Benton; two stepdaughters, Sandy Comer of Scott City, Sheri Rister of Chaffee, Mo.; three brothers, Darrell Myrick, Roger and Kenny Byassee, all of Fulton, Ky.; four sisters, Beverly Bartley, Margaret and Janice Byassee, Brenda Schubert, all of Fulton; seven grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; five stepgrandchildren; and two great-stepgrandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a son and a brother.

Friends may call at Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel in Scott City from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday.

The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at the chapel, with the Rev. Jim Norris officiating. Burial will be in Oakdale Cemetery near Commerce, Mo.
