MILLERSVILLE -- James C. "Jack" Miller, 91, of College Station, Texas, died Tuesday, July 6, 1993, at his home. He was born Sept. 20, 1901, on a farm near Millersville. He first married Millicent Bate, who died in 1960. He and the former Dorothy Sherrill were married in 1961...

MILLERSVILLE -- James C. "Jack" Miller, 91, of College Station, Texas, died Tuesday, July 6, 1993, at his home.

He was born Sept. 20, 1901, on a farm near Millersville. He first married Millicent Bate, who died in 1960. He and the former Dorothy Sherrill were married in 1961.

Miller attended Southeast Missouri State University, received bachelor, master and Ph.D. degrees in animal science from the University of Missouri.

His teaching and administrative assignments included Berea College, Louisiana State University, University of Tennessee, Texas A&M University, and Oregon State University. He served two years on the Cornell University faculty at the University of the Philippines College of Agriculture.

Miller was at Texas A&M from 1940-58, where he served as professor of animal science, head of the department of animal science, and dean of agriculture. He retired in 1969 and he and his wife raised crossbred cattle.

He was a member of First United Methodist Church in Bryan, Texas, and was involved in numerous civic and community organizations.

Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Martha Daniel of Lubbock, Texas, Barbara Schull of Paradise Valley, Ariz.; a son, Richard Miller of Santa Rosa, Calif.; a sister, Lee Robinson of Cape Girardeau; eight grandchildren, and 10 great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at First United Methodist Church in Bryan. The Revs. Carroll Fancher, Jim Ross and Bob Richers will officiate. The family will receive friends at the church following the service.

Hillier Funeral Home in Bryan is in charge of arrangements.
