DEXTER -- James T. Hughes, 86, of Dexter died Sunday, March 9, 1997, at his home. He was born Feb. 20, 1911, in New Haven, Ill., son of Jesse and Lydia Akers Hughes. He and Dixie Dillon were married Oct. 21, 1930, at Bloomfield. Hughes retired as a mechanic with Cotton Belt Railroad. He was a member of Second General Baptist Church...

DEXTER -- James T. Hughes, 86, of Dexter died Sunday, March 9, 1997, at his home.

He was born Feb. 20, 1911, in New Haven, Ill., son of Jesse and Lydia Akers Hughes. He and Dixie Dillon were married Oct. 21, 1930, at Bloomfield.

Hughes retired as a mechanic with Cotton Belt Railroad. He was a member of Second General Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife; three sons, Bill Hughes of Dexter, Bob Hughes of Birmingham, Ala., Jerry Hughes of Baton Rouge, La.; a daughter, Louise Yeakey of O'Fallon; 11 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a daughter.

Friends may call at Watkins and Sons Funeral Home in Dexter from 5-8 p.m. today.

Funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home, with the Revs. Doyle Corlew and Glen Spence officiating. Burial will be in Bloomfield Cemetery at Bloomfield.
