FREDERICKTOWN, Mo. -- James "Pappy" Pate, 82, of Fredericktown died Monday, Oct. 14, 2002, at his home.

He was born June 23, 1920, in Aberdene, Miss., son of Paul and Bessie Nash Pate. He and Bernice Brewer were married in 1941 in St. Louis. She preceded him in death.

He was a truck driver and member of Teamsters.

Survivors include three sons, James Pate Jr. of Benton, Mo., Charles Pate of Fenton, Mo., Billy Pate of St. Louis; two daughters, Barbara Pinkley of Fenton, Norma Webb of Fancy Farm, Ky.; a brother, Horace Pate of Imperial, Mo.; four sisters, Odell Rakin of Oakville, Mo., Betty Cook of Phoenix, Ariz., Mary Eads of Cuba, Mo., Pearl Vogelsing of St. Peters, Mo.; 11 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

Friends may call at Follis and Sons Funeral Home in Fredericktown after 5 p.m. today.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Mt. Lebanon Cemetery in St. Louis.
