James H. "Jim" Vandeven, 68, of Cape Girardeau died Tuesday, Dec. 17, 2013, at Saint Francis Medical Center.

He was born Jan. 17, 1945, in Lutesville, Mo., to Clarence Theodore and Barbara Rose Landewee Vandeven.

He and Alice M. Bisher were married Nov. 9, 1968, at Chaffee, Mo.

Jim was a graduate of Leopold High School. He served in the Army from May 1966 to May 1968.

He was a founding partner of CPU Inc.

Jim was an active member of St. Mary Cathedral and had been an usher and parish council member. He was previously on the school board of Notre Dame High School. He was also a member of Knights of Columbus Council 1111 and past member of Evening Exchange Club.

He enjoyed spending time with family, golf, fishing with grandchildren, woodworking and gardening.

Survivors include his wife, Alice M. Vandeven of Cape Girardeau; son, Craig Allen Vandeven of Cape Girardeau; two daughters, Carmen Robinson (Mark) and Christy Missey (Steve) of Cape Girardeau; two brothers, William J. Vandeven (Loretta) of Cape Girardeau and Richard J. Vandeven (Jacqueline) of Chaffee, Mo.; two sisters, Verneda LeGrand (Ralph) of Cape Girardeau and Elaine Proctor (Roy) of Benton, Mo.; and four grandchildren, Kaitlyn and Alyssa Robinson and Connor and Evan Missey.

He was preceded in death by his parents and infant daughter, Sheila Kaye Vandeven.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home in Cape Girardeau. Parish prayers will be at 5 p.m. Knights of Columbus rosary will be at 7 p.m.

Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Mary Cathedral, with the Rev. Tom Kiefer officiating.

Burial will be in St. Mary Cemetery in Cape Girardeau. Full military honors will be provided by Missouri Honors Team.

Memorial contributions may be given to the American Cancer Society or Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.
