SIKESTON -- James Williamson Sr., 72, of Sikeston died July 6, 1995, at the Missouri Delta Medical Center.

He was born Aug. 26, 1922, in Grenada, Miss., to the late Frank and Velma Davis Williamson.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Army during World War II and was formerly employed by the Sikeston Department of Public Works.

He is survived by five sons, Ernest Carradine of Pemberton, N.J., James Williamson Jr. of Cape Girardeau, David Williamson and Billy Joe Williamson of Sikeston, and Eric Williamson of St. Louis; five daughters, Mary Alice White and Lovie Byars of Chicago, and Gladies Webb, Linda Williams and Brenda Jackson of Sikeston; three brothers, Ben Williamson of Grenada, Frank Williamson Jr. and Elijah Williamson of Sikeston; five sisters, Clara Mae Barton of Oakland, Calif., and Mary Francis Parker, Claudia Mae Williams, Essie Mae Calvin and Bobbie Lee McClain of Sikeston; his stepmother, Mary Williamson of Sikeston; 35 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Jessie Mae Williamson.

Friends may call from 7 to 8 p.m. Friday at the Williams, Farr and Purnell Funeral Home in Sikeston. Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Cornerstone Baptist Church in Sikeston, with the Rev. Sylvester Morgan officiating. Internment will follow at Sunset of Memories Cemetery in Sikeston.
