DONGOLA, Ill. -- Janie L. Chamness, 69, of Dongola, formerly of Cobden, Ill., died Sunday, April 28, 2002, at her home.

She was born May 9, 1932, in Cobden, the daughter of William Arthur Nance and Minnie Bell Marks Nance. She married James L. Chamness on June 9, 1951, in Piggott, Ark.

She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Cobden and was a retired cook at Union County Hospital in Anna, Ill.

Survivors include her husband of Jonesboro, Ill.; three sons, Mike Chamness of Boles, Ill., Scott Chamness of Anna and David Chamness of Cobden; two daughters, Terrie Rymer of Dongola and Debbie Hill of Parsons, Tenn.; a brother, Herbert Nance of Wabash, Ind.; a sister, Hallie Ripley of Peoria, Ill.; nine grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Lutz & Rendleman Funeral Home in Cobden and after 10 a.m. Tuesday at the First Baptist Church in Cobden.

Funeral will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the church, with the Rev. Clifford Heil and Dr. Daryl Varble officiating. Burial will be in Alto Pass Cemetery at Alto Pass, Ill.
