MCCLURE, Ill. -- Jasper C. Lovell, 82, of McClure, died Friday, April 2, 2004, at Southeast Missouri Hospital in Cape Girardeau.
He was born April 11, 1921, at McClure, son of Clyde and Minnie Burchyett Lovell. He and Georgia C. Lamb were married Sept. 24, 1943, at Cape Girardeau. She preceded him in death on June 12, 1998.
Lovell was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Army, where he received two Bronze Stars and served in the Pacific Theatre.
He was a mechanic for Jordan Truck Services of Tamms, Ill., for more than 30 years. He was a school bus driver for Shawnee Community High School for 15 years. He also farmed most of his life in the McClure area. After he retired, he worked for St. Francis Medical Center in receiving and shipping.
Lovell was a member of McClure Pentecostal Church in McClure. He was a member of American Legion Post 900 in McClure and Veterans of Foreign War Post 03455 in Anna.
Survivors include a daughter, Janis L. Burford and her husband Ronald of McClure; two sons, Larry C. Lovell and his wife Diane of Anna, Dennis R. Lovell and his wife Valerie of Effingham, Ill.; a brother, Lewis "Chub" Lovell of McClure; a sister, Lucille Woodard of McClure; four grandchildren, Alysia Kaufman, Jason Lovell, Julie Burford, Sarah Burford; four stepgrandchildren, Kim Burford, Terry Burford, Heather Lakin and Ashley Lakin; and four great-grandchildren, Cameron Lovell, Alexandria Lovell, Lydia Kaufman and Caleb Kaufman.
Lovell was preceded in death by a brother, Willie Lovell, and a sister, Lorene Lovell.
Friends may call from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday at Ford and Sons Sprigg Street Funeral Home and on Monday from noon to 1 p.m. at McClure Pentecostal Church.
The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Monday at McClure Pentecostal Church, with the Revs. Greg Morrison and Mark Boyd officiating. Burial will follow at Lindsey Cemetery in McClure, with full military honors by the VFW Post 03455.
