Jerry Murrel Dockins, 85, of Jackson passed away Sunday, Nov. 2, 2014, at his home.

He was born Dec. 6, 1928, in Burfordville, son of A. Fred and Maple S. Turner Dockins. He married Idell Brown in 1949.

Jerry worked for the city of Cape Girardeau more than 25 years as a mechanic and shop foreman. After retiring in 1984 he began a new business of water hauling and chat delivery. As a charter member of Shawnee Hills Baptist Church, he dedicated many hours to church building and maintenance. He was a 32nd Degree Mason and a member of Jackson Excelsior Lodge 441.

Survivors include his wife, Idell Dockins; special friends, James and Debra Hillis of Jackson; and his beloved and faithful guardian dog, Mitzy.

He was preceded in death by his parents and an infant sister.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until service time Wednesday at Shawnee Hills Baptist Church.

The funeral will be at noon Wednesday at the church, with the Rev. Don Estes officiating. A Masonic service will begin at 11 a.m. Burial will be in Russell Heights Cemetery.

Hutchings Funeral Chapel in Marble Hill, Missouri, is in charge of arrangements.
