Jimmie D. Smith, 77, of Jackson passed away Friday, Aug. 21, 2020, at his home. He was born Aug. 23, 1942, in Senath, Missouri, to William “Bill” and Gladys Dye Smith. Jimmie D. Smith, 77, of Jackson passed away Friday, Aug. 21, 2020, at his home.

He was born Aug. 23, 1942, in Senath, Missouri, to William “Bill” and Gladys Dye Smith. He and Sandra Jean Mungle were married Nov. 27, 1982, in Jackson.

Jimmie served honorably in the U.S. Army from 1960 to 1963, during the Cuban Missile Crisis.

He owned and operated JDS Mechanical Heating and Cooling in Jackson, retiring in 2011.

He was an avid bowler and enjoyed watching car races.

Loving survivors include his wife of 37 years, Sandra Smith of Jackson; a stepson, Kyle (Linda) Brotherton of Jackson; a sister, Anna Sue Singleton of Collinsville, Illinois; two grandchildren, Jason (Holly) Floyd and Jena (Jacob) Scholl; three great-grandchildren, Sydnie and Colt Floyd and Ellie Scholl; numerous nieces and nephews; and his little dachshund, Cooper.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Raymond and William Smith; and five sisters, Alphia Borah, Juanita Swain, Wanda Mabry, Dorothy Stoke and Aline Harbison.

Visitation and funeral were held Sunday at McCombs Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Jackson, with the Rev. Sam Roethemeyer officiating. Burial followed at Russell Heights Cemetery in Jackson.

Memorials may take the form of contributions to the Humane Society of Southeast Missouri or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
