She attended St. Mary Cathedral Grade School, Notre Dame High School (1970) and Southeast Missouri State College, where she received her Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education.

Jody's first and only teaching position was at St. Ambrose Catholic Grade School in Chaffee, Missouri, where she taught elementary grades for 42 years and briefly served as principal. After her retirement in 2018, she returned to St. Ambrose on a part-time basis, where she mentored teachers, assisted in classrooms, helped in the kitchen, and tutored students.
