Johanna Broshuis, 94, of Jackson passed away Thursday, Jan. 7, 2016, at the Monticello House in Jackson. One of six children, she was born Nov. 29, 1921, in Leopold, Missouri, the daughter of Robert George and Hannah Lenderink Holzum. She and Bernard J. Broshuis were married Feb. 27, 1943, in Guardian Angel Catholic Church in St. Louis. They had been married nearly 61 years when he passed away Nov. 7, 2003...

Johanna Broshuis, 94, of Jackson passed away Thursday, Jan. 7, 2016, at the Monticello House in Jackson.

One of six children, she was born Nov. 29, 1921, in Leopold, Missouri, the daughter of Robert George and Hannah Lenderink Holzum. She and Bernard J. Broshuis were married Feb. 27, 1943, in Guardian Angel Catholic Church in St. Louis. They had been married nearly 61 years when he passed away Nov. 7, 2003.

Since 1950, Johanna had been a faithful member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Jackson, where she was a former member of the parish council and the Home and School Association. She was an active member of St. Ann's Sodality and the quilting club and a charter member of the Knights of Columbus Bishop Timon Ladies Auxiliary 6405 in Jackson.

Loving survivors include two daughters, Brenda (Norman) Grass and Betty (Mike) Elfrink of Jackson; four grandchildren, Steve Elfrink of Lenexa, Kansas, Leann Hendrix of Cape Girardeau, Kathy Elfrink of Jackson and Brian Grass of St. Louis; and 15 great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Theodore and Henry Holzum, and three sisters, Josephine Holzum, Helen Seiler and Hilda Vandeven.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today at the chapel of McCombs Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Jackson, with parish prayers to be at 7 p.m., followed by the rosary.

The funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, with the Rev. John Harth officiating. Interment will be in Russell Heights Cemetery in Jackson.

Memorials may take the form of contributions to Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Jackson.
