John LeRoy "Jack" Hess Jr., 94, of Cape Girardeau died Sunday, March 28, 2010, at Landmark Hospital.

He was born June 1, 1915, in Red Rock, Okla., son of LeRoy and Mabel Opal Domeny Hess. He and Annie Dell Gaston were married March 21, 1945, in New Orleans.

Hess was a staff sergeant in the U.S. Army during World War II.

He retired as a U.S. postal employee from Ponca City, Okla., where he and his wife moved after they were married. He was active in Boy Scouts, youth sports and YMCA.

Loving survivors include his wife, Annie Dell Hess of Cape Girardeau; a son, Daryl K. Hess and wife Marianne Orlando of Framingham, Mass.; a daughter, Marilyn K. Curtis and husband Dalton B. Jr. of Cape Girardeau; a granddaughter, Shannon K. Curtis Miller and husband Mark W. of Jackson; and two great-grandsons, Paiton MacLeod Miller and Tysen Dalton Miller of Jackson.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother.

Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home.

The funeral will be at l0 a.m. Saturday at St. Andrew Lutheran Church, with the Revs. Paul Short and Roger Kiepe officiating. Burial will be in Cape County Memorial Park.

Memorials requested to Trinity Lutheran School or Saint Francis Medical Center Foundation.
