John Weldon Lafferty Jr., 60, of Huntsville, Ala., passed away Thursday, July 16, 2009, at Huntsville Hospital in Huntsville. He was born Aug. 16, 1948, in Baltimore, son of John W. and Violet Grisham Lafferty Sr. John grew up in the Naylor, Mo., area. ...

John Weldon Lafferty Jr., 60, of Huntsville, Ala., passed away Thursday, July 16, 2009, at Huntsville Hospital in Huntsville.

He was born Aug. 16, 1948, in Baltimore, son of John W. and Violet Grisham Lafferty Sr.

John grew up in the Naylor, Mo., area. He attended school there and three years of high school in O'Fallon, Mo. He entered the U.S. Army in 1967 and retired in 1987. He served one year in Vietnam. He also served in Germany and the Redstone Arsenal in Huntsville. After retiring John worked for Intergraph Computers. He was of the Baptist faith. John enjoyed fishing and golfing in his spare time.

Loving survivors include his wife, Sherry Dianne Lafferty of Huntsville; a son, Michael (Hillary) Lafferty of Fayettville, Tenn.; a daughter, Trashea (Jeff) Renfro of Lawrenceburg, Tenn.; a stepson, Jeff Wingfield of Spring Hill, Tenn.; and his mother, Violet Lafferty of Jackson. Also surviving are three grandchildren, McKenzie, Luke and Amber of Lawrenceburg.

He was preceded in death by his father, John W. Lafferty Sr., and his sister, Barbara Lafferty Green.

Visitation was from 5 to 7 p.m. Saturday, July 18, 2009, at Laughlin Funeral Home in Huntsville.

Funeral service was at 3 p.m. Sunday, July 19, 2009, at the funeral home, with Pastor Wayne Mardis officiating.

Interment was in Taylor Cemetery in Hazel Green, Ala., with full military honors.
