June E. McDowell, 89, of Jackson died Monday, Jan. 7, 2008, at Southeast Missouri Hospital in Cape Girardeau, after a brief illness.
She was born June 22, 1918, in Fruitland, daughter of William and Nannie Hansel Anderson. She married Harry McDowell Jan. 30, 1936. He preceded her in death March 24, 1999.
June was a member of New McKendree United Methodist Church. A devoted homemaker and mother, June took an active role in her children's and their families' lives, and her husband's numerous business ventures.
After raising her children, she found special enjoyment in flower gardening, traveling and bowling.
Surviving are four sons, Harry McDowell Jr. of Cairo, Ill., Richard (Jane) McDowell, Tom (Denise) McDowell and Tim (Susan) McDowell, all of Jackson; three daughters, Harriet (Bob) Puchbauer, Karen (Jim) Sander and Susan (Bruce) LaPierre, all of Jackson; 19 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, four sisters, two brothers and three grandchildren.
Visitation will be today from 4 to 8 p.m. at McCombs Funeral Home in Jackson.
The funeral will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at the funeral home, with the Rev. Jimmie Corbin officiating. Burial will be in Cape County Memorial Park in Cape Girardeau.
