Laverne Freed, 90, of Scott City died Sunday, July 8, 2018, at her home.

She was born June 27, 1928, in Charleston, Missouri, to Everett Lee and Mary Lee Flowers Patrick. She and Lonnie Murl Freed were married Dec. 12, 1951, in Piggott, Arkansas. He preceded her in death Oct. 24, 2008.

She was a waitress at Charlestonian Restaurant. She was a member of New Life Gospel Center in Scott City, babysat for numerous children in Scott City and was known in the neighborhood for her cooking.

She is survived by two sons, Rickey (Kim) Freed of Cape Girardeau and Danny Freed of Scott City; three daughters, Konnie (Cob) Keller of Scott City, Janie (Lynn) Niswonger of Ocala, Florida, and Linda (Joe) Clifton of Orange Park, Florida; two brothers, Ronnie Patrick of Six Mile, South Carolina, and Roy Patrick of Anniston, Missouri; a sister, Evelyn Zam of Oregon, Ohio; seven grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.

She was also preceded in death by seven brothers and two sisters.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel in Scott City.

Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at the chapel, with the Revs. Jack Owens and Larry Taylor officiating. Burial will be in Lightner Cemetery in Scott City.
