Laverne Olga Gockel, 84, of Cape Girardeau died Saturday, Sept. 25, 2010, at the Lutheran Home.

She was born Aug. 1, 1926, at Point Rest, Mo., to Louis Charles and Isabell Mehner Springer.

She and Marvin "Pete" Gockel were married Jan. 12, 1951, at Cape Girardeau.

Mrs. Gockel worked 30 years for Florsheim Shoe.

She was a longtime member of Trinity Lutheran Church.

Survivors include one son and two daughters, Rickey Gockel, Rhonda (Jerry) Neels and Sondra Fitzpatrick, all of Cape Girardeau; one brother, Willard Springer of Cape Girardeau; two sisters, Irene Springer of Cape Girardeau, Geraldine Ackman of Sikeston, Mo.; three grandchildren, Bradley (Amy) Neels of Cape Girardeau, Darren Neels of Tuscaloosa, Ala., and Trevor Neels of Cape Girardeau; one nephew, Randy Ackman of Sikeston. A great-granddaughter is expected in January 2011.

She was preceded in death by her husband, parents and one brother, Dale Springer.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home in Cape Girardeau.

Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Nathan Burgell officiating.

Burial will follow at Lorimier Cemetery in Cape Girardeau.

Memorial contributions may be given to Alzheimer's Association, 9374 Olive Street Road, St. Louis, MO 63132.
