Norman Leon "Lee" Jones, 87, of Cape Girardeau died Monday, March 26, 2001, at the Lutheran Home. He was born Feb. 7, 1914, at Whitewater, Mo., son of Herman Arlando and Ida Mae Jones. He and Claire Peets were married in 1945 in Honolulu, Hawaii. Jones was an agent with Metropolitan Life Insurance Co. Prior to that he worked for Standard Brands in New York City, N.Y., and had been a field director with American Red Cross in Hawaii during World War II. He moved to Cape Girardeau in 1982...

Norman Leon "Lee" Jones, 87, of Cape Girardeau died Monday, March 26, 2001, at the Lutheran Home.

He was born Feb. 7, 1914, at Whitewater, Mo., son of Herman Arlando and Ida Mae Jones. He and Claire Peets were married in 1945 in Honolulu, Hawaii.

Jones was an agent with Metropolitan Life Insurance Co. Prior to that he worked for Standard Brands in New York City, N.Y., and had been a field director with American Red Cross in Hawaii during World War II. He moved to Cape Girardeau in 1982.

He was a member of First Christian Church and VFW Post 3838.

Jones played trumpet in Cape Municipal Band many years, and was leader of the former Blue Rhythm Boys in the Cape Girardeau area.

Survivors include his wife; three sons, Steve Jones of Burlington, Wis., Larry Jones of Lusby, Md., Gerald Jones of Oak Harbor, Wash.; and seven grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a brother and three sisters.

Friends may call at First Christian Church Friday after 12:30 p.m.

Funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at the church. The Rev. Philip N. Curran will officiate. Burial will be in Fairmount Cemetery, with graveside rites by VFW Post 3838.
