PORTAGEVILLE -- Lewis Eugene Hoxworth, 73, of Portageville died Thursday, March 6, 1997, at St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau.

He was born Oct. 1, 1923, at Risco, son of L.D. and Della Pollack Hoxworth. He and Helen Clendenin were married Feb. 17, 1950, in Arkansas.

Hoxworth was a retired farmer. He was a member of the United Methodist Church, 32nd Degree Mason and member of Odom Lodge 671, and past commander of the VFW Post. He was a veteran of World War II.

Survivors include his wife; three daughters, Audrey Mathenia of Oklahoma City, Okla., Martha Smith of Fort Myers Beach, Fla., Lisa Patasik of Gainesville, Fla.; two sons, Darrell Hoxworth of Portageville, Richard Hoxworth of St. Louis; two brothers, Gerald and David Hoxworth of Belle; two sisters, Lorene Grable of Cape Girardeau, Marydelle Marson of Leavenworth, Wash.; and 10 grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by two brothers and a sister.

Friends may call at DeLisle Funeral Home after 5 p.m. today. A Masonic service will be held at 7.

Funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at First United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Ed Rhodes officiating. Burial will be in Portageville Cemetery.
