Lewis F. Ward, 88, of Grand Rapids, Mich., died Thursday, December 21, 2006. He was born Dec. 31, 1917, in Harbor Springs, Mich., son of Arthur and Edna Blackman Ward. He and Erna Vogt were married Oct. 24, 1944, in Flint, Mich. She died July 6, 1992. He then married Izetta Van Camp. She survives...

Lewis F. Ward, 88, of Grand Rapids, Mich., died Thursday, December 21, 2006.

He was born Dec. 31, 1917, in Harbor Springs, Mich., son of Arthur and Edna Blackman Ward. He and Erna Vogt were married Oct. 24, 1944, in Flint, Mich. She died July 6, 1992. He then married Izetta Van Camp. She survives.

Lewis served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. After discharge he lived in St. Louis and served with the fire department, retiring after many years of service.

Loving survivors include a sister, Ann Ellwanger; two stepdaughters, Linda (Evan) Nielsen and Patricia (Peter) Marks; sisters-in-law, Mary Beth Vogt of Jackson and Helen Ward; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a brother and two sisters.

The funeral was held at 3 p.m. Saturday at Northlawn United Methodist Church in Grand Rapids.

Graveside service will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Trinity Lutheran Cemetery in Friedheim, with the Rev. Roger Steinbroeck officiating.

McCombs Funeral Home of Jackson is in charge of arrangements.
