Lon Juden Maxey, 90, of Cape Girardeau died Monday, July 27, 2009, at Landmark Hospital.
He was born Sept. 8, 1918, in New Madrid County, Mo., son of Lon Lee and Bess Vivian Juden Maxey. He and Ruby Rogers were married Sept. 7, 1940, in Jackson. She passed away in 1977. He later married Joyce Lape on Sept. 12, 1986, in Cape Girardeau.
Lon was the founder of Atlas Plastics, now known as Spartech Plastics. He was also the founder and owner of General Sign Co. 53 years, and he brought Screen Arts to Cape Girardeau as well.
He served as vice president of International Sign Association and president of Missouri Sign Association. He was a member of National Electric Sign Association, Kiwanis, Junior Chamber of Commerce and Centenary United Methodist Church.
Survivors include his spouse, Joyce Maxey of Cape Girardeau; two daughters, Pamela Ansel of Charleston, Mo., Candace Lynn Bradford of Bertrand, Mo.; a sister, Jane Matthews of Cape Girardeau; and 13 grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and first wife.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home.
Graveside service will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Cape County Memorial Park Cemetery. The Rev. Jeff Long will officiate.
