Lonnie Robert Bangert, 87, of Jackson unexpectedly passed away Friday, March 31, 2023, at his home.
Lonnie was born Aug. 29, 1935, in Lixville, Missouri, to Robert J. and Caroline L. Pohlmann Bangert. He was baptized and confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church in Friedheim. He was a 1953 graduate of Jackson High School.
Lonnie and Judith Ann Eddleman were married Feb. 7, 1965, in Cape Girardeau. A son, Lonnie R. "Rob", was born to their union.
Lonnie was a 1953 graduate of Jackson High School. He was an honorably discharged veteran of U.S. Army, serving from 1958 to 1960, and was stationed in Germany for several months.
Lonnie's passion was farming, but he was employed as a brick layer, working in residential and commercial construction. He was a member of the Brick Layers Local 23 in Cape Girardeau.
Lonnie was a longtime member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Jackson, where he often served as an usher.
Loving survivors include his wife of 58 years, Judy Bangert of Jackson; a daughter-in-law, Wendy (Mike) Aufdenberg of Jackson; a granddaughter, Morgan (Ethan) Broshuis of Leopold, Missouri; step-grandchildren, Cody Aufdenberg of Jackson and Ryan (Melody) Aufdenberg of Cape Girardeau; a great-stepgranddaughter, Emelia Aufdenberg; a sister, Wilma (the late Harlan) Ruppel of Jackson; and two sisters-in-law, Lamia (the late Tony) Bangert of Patton, Missouri, and Donna (Jim) Mason of Jackson.
He was preceded in death by his son, Rob Bangert (July 7, 1998); four siblings, Tony Bangert, Ervin (Marilyn) Bangert, Stella (Walter) Uhlig and Gilbert Bangert.
Visitation will be from 3 to 7 p.m. Sunday, April 2, at McCombs Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Jackson and from 9 to 10 a.m. Monday, April 3, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Jackson.
The Rev. Joshua Schmidt will conduct the funeral at 10 a.m. Monday, April 3, at the church. Interment will follow at Cape County Memorial Park Cemetery in Cape Girardeau.
Memorials may take the form of contributions to St. Paul Lutheran Church or the donor's choice of church or charity.
