Loyd Slinkard, 68, 1117 N. Fountain, died Wednesday, Jan. 20, 1993, at St. Francis Medical Center.
He was born Nov. 22, 1924, at Burfordville, son of Leo and Emma Ervin Slinkard. He and Benita "Peggy" Benton were married Jan. 4, 1947, in Wickliffe, Ky.
Slinkard was owner and operator of Loyd Slinkard Painting Co. Inc. from 1958-88. He was the painting contractor for Town Plaza Shopping Center, the first phase of Doctors' Park, Student Recreation Center at Southeast Missouri State University, Cottonwood Treatment Center, Veterans Home, additions to Southeast Missouri Hospital, St. Francis Medical Center, and Kingsway Mall at Sikeston.
He was a member of Lynwood Baptist Church and VFW Post 3838, and past member of Painters Local 1292. He coached Little League baseball 14 years. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.
Survivors include his wife; three sons, Michael and Mark Slinkard of Cape Girardeau, Scott Slinkard of Fruitland; a daughter, Peggy Slinkard of Cape Girardeau; two brothers, Norman Slinkard of Cape Girardeau, Howard Slinkard of Poplar Bluff; two sisters, Cora Lindsey of Cape Girardeau, Viola Anderson of Canton, Ill.; 10 grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by three brothers and two sisters.
Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Ford and Sons Sprigg Street Chapel. The Rev. Allen Reasons will officiate, with burial in Fairview Cemetery near Burfordville. Graveside rites will be conducted by the VFW.
Friends may call at the funeral home from 4-8 p.m. today.
