CHAFFEE -- Funeral service for Lucille Proffer of Chaffee will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Vincent's Catholic Church in Cape Girardeau. The Rev. Ron Hoye will officiate, with burial in St. Mary's Cemetery in Cape Girardeau.

Friends may call at Ford and Sons Sprigg Street Chapel in Cape Girardeau from 3-8 p.m. today. Parish prayers and rosary will be at 7:30.

Proffer, 81, died Wednesday, Jan. 27, 1993, at St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau.

She was born April 23, 1911, at Charleston, daughter of Samuel B. and Mary M. Brown Thompson. On June 20, 1931, she married Melvin Proffer at Jonesboro, Ill. He preceded her in death May 29, 1988.

She moved from Benton to Cape Girardeau, where for 32 years she worked for International Shoe Company. She moved to Chaffee in 1991, where she was a member of St. Ambrose Catholic Church and Daughters of St. Ambrose.

Survivors include a daughter, Clara Snover of St. Louis; two brothers, Elbert Thompson of Sunnyvale, Calif., Harold Thompson of St. Ann; a sister, Bessie Sneed of Chaffee; seven grandchildren, and 11 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, five brothers and two sisters.
