POPLAR BLUFF, Mo. -- Madge Wright Sample, 94, of Poplar Bluff went to be with the Lord on Saturday, Nov. 15, 2014, at her home in Poplar Bluff.
She was born May 1, 1920, in Cape Girardeau, to the late James E. Wright and Della Mae Martin Wright. On Feb. 18, 1939, she married Henry A. Sample. He preceded her in death in 1983.
Madge is survived by her children, Saundra Sample, Carol Fauss, Kay (Dennis) Smothers, Darlene (Alan) Lohmann and Joe Henry (Marla) Sample; two sisters, Shirley Thomas and Phyllis Conyers; nine grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and two great-great grandchildren.
Madge was preceded in death by her parents, seven brothers, five sisters, one son-in-law and one granddaughter.
She was a charter member of Cape First Assembly of God. In 2007, she moved to Poplar Bluff and attended Bluff First Assembly of God. For 45 years she worked for the shoe factory in Cape Girardeau, Brown Shoe, International and Florsheim Shoe Co.
Madge lived her life centered on God, family and church. She left a heritage of faith to the generation that follows, and will be remembered not only for her faithfulness to God, but for her quick smile, great sense of humor and love for others.
Visitation will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Cape First Assembly of God on Silver Springs Road. The funeral service will be at 1 p.m. at the church, with the Rev. Gary Brothers and the Rev. Dan Martin officiating. Burial will be in Lorimer Cemetery in Cape Girardeau.
