Marie Hinkebein, 87, of Jackson departed this life, surrounded by her loving family, at her home Saturday, July 8, 2017.

She was born March 2, 1930, in Glennon, Missouri, daughter of Hubert and Mayme Beel Stause. She and Jerome "Jerry" Hinkebein were married Oct. 16, 1948. He passed Jan. 1, 2006.

Marie was well-known for her volunteer work in the community. She was honorably awarded "The Unsung Hero" award from the Jackson Heritage Association.

She was a member of Immaculate Conception Church, the Saint Ann Sodality, the American Legion, Knights of Columbus Ladies Auxiliary, the American Red Cross and Immaculate Conception Ladies Quilting Club and was a volunteer at the Missouri Veterans Home.

Marie's talents and presence will be missed by many.

Loving survivors include five sons, Thomas (Laura) Hinkebein of Hot Springs Village, Arkansas, Ronald (the late Susan) Hinkebein of Fruitland, Robert (Joyce Crites) Hinkebein of Jackson, Vaughn (Marsha) Hinkebein of Jackson and James (Janette) Hinkebein of Jackson; a daughter, Janice (Douglas) Bigham of Olive Branch, Illinois; and two sisters, Ella Elfrink of Jackson and Margie Klipfel of New Hamburg, Missouri.

Also surviving are nine grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 57 years; a son, Roger Hinkebein; a daughter-in-law, Susan Hinkebein; and six brothers.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today at McCombs Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Jackson. Deacon Walter Biri will lead parish prayers at 7:30 p.m.

A funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Immaculate Conception Church in Jackson, with the Rev. Normand Varone and Deacon Biri officiating.

Interment will follow in Russell Heights Cemetery in Jackson.
