KARNAK, Ill. -- Marie Elizabeth Grubbs Krigsheuser, 95, of Karnak passed away Friday, May 14, 2010, at her home, following a courageous battle with colon cancer for more than two years. She was born Feb. 20, 1915, in Grand Chain, Ill., daughter of the late Charley and Katherine Heisner Grubbs...

KARNAK, Ill. -- Marie Elizabeth Grubbs Krigsheuser, 95, of Karnak passed away Friday, May 14, 2010, at her home, following a courageous battle with colon cancer for more than two years.

She was born Feb. 20, 1915, in Grand Chain, Ill., daughter of the late Charley and Katherine Heisner Grubbs.

Marie was a faithful member of St. Luke's Lutheran Church in Olmsted, Ill., where she was a member and past president of the Ladies Aid. She loved her church.

She loved to cook and sew. She always had a garden and canned her vegetables. She raised chickens and sold eggs on the family farm where she resided the past 66 years.

Marie married Oscar J. Krigsheuser on Dec. 9, 1933, in Grand Chain. He preceded her in death March 17, 1974.

She was also preceded in death by a dear daughter, Carol Jean Krigsheuser, May 27, 1995; three brothers John, David and Glynn Grubbs; four sisters, Clara Grubbs, Annie Grubbs, Lena Austin and Oma Jones.

Surviving are several nieces and nephews, including Charles L. (Jeanette) Jones of Pulaski, Ill., and Marshall (Hilda) Prochay of Harrisburg, Ill.; several great-nephews, nieces and great-great-nieces and nephews.

Friends may call from 5 to 7 p.m. today at Jones Funeral Home in Villa Ridge, Ill., and after 9:30 a.m. Monday at St. Luke's Lutheran Church.

The funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the church, with Paul Donner officiating. Interment will be in Grand Chain Masonic Cemetery.

Expressions of sympathy may take the form of memorials to Grand Chain Masonic Cemetery, c/o Anna Lee Heisner, 473 Big Stone Road, Grand Chain, IL 62941, in memory of Marie E. Krigsheuser.
