MARBLE HILL, Mo. -- Marietta Catherine "Mattie" VanderMierden, 79, of Marble Hill died Wednesday, June 3, 2009, at Saint Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau.

She was born June 21, 1929, in New Hamburg, Mo., daughter of Phillip and Leocadia Dirnberger Bucher. She and Martin Henry VanderMierden were married Aug. 26, 1950.

VanderMierden was a member of St. Anthony Catholic Church at Glennon, Mo., and active in St. Ann's Sodality.

Survivors include her husband; children, Evelyn (Lloyd Jr.) Davenport of Checotah, Okla., Alma Bowers of Cape Girardeau, Bill (Peggy) VanderMierden of Glenallen, Mo., Alice (Rex) Crites of Burfordville, Leo (Mary Ellen) VanderMierden of Leopold, Mo., Elmer (Renee) VanderMierden of Advance, Mo., Betty (Clyde) Little of Jackson, Mary Lou (Ken Talley) Crader, Bob (Cindy) VanderMierden, Henry (Julie) VanderMierden and Judy (David) Ford, all of Marble Hill; four sisters, Zita Nenninger, Susie Seyer, Coonie Essner and Veronica Westrich; two brothers, Phillip and Mike Bucher; 36 grandchildren; and 39 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a son, Leon Vander­Mierden; three sons-in-law, Jimmy Brown, Lester Crader and Paul Bowers; three sisters; and two brothers.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at Hutchings Funeral Chapel in Marble Hill. Parish prayers will be at 7.

Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Anthony Church, with the Rev. Normand Varone as celebrant.

Burial will be in the church cemetery.
