Martha Pickett Payne, 92, of Cape Girardeau died Friday, March 29, 2013, at Life Care Centers of Cape Girardeau.

She was born Jan. 14, 1921, in Randles, to Louis G. and Anna B. Berry Matthews.

She married Warren Pickett on March 14, 1940, in Oran, Mo. He died March 23, 1975. She married Jim R. Payne Jan. 15, 1977, in Cape Girardeau.

Martha graduated from Southeast Missouri State University and taught school in Randles. She later worked at Bib & Tucker Children's Clothing Store and Jack and Jill Play School in Cape Girardeau. She was a member of Abbey Road Christian Church.

Survivors include her husband, Jim Payne of Cape Girardeau; a daughter, Susan O'Connell of Cape Girardeau; three sons, Charles Pickett of Cape Girardeau, Roger (Debbie) Pickett of Santa Clara, Calif., and Brad (Renee) Pickett of Cape Girardeau; two stepdaughters, Debbie Riemann and Janet Payne of Jackson; a sister, Jane Matthews of St. Louis; seven grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, first husband, a brother and two sisters.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Chapel.

The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Donny Ford officiating. Burial will be in Cape County Memorial Park.

Memorial contributions may be given to the family of Martha Pickett Payne.
