JACKSON -- Funeral service for Martin M. Birk, Jackson Route 2, will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Tilsit. The Rev. Paul Drake will officiate, with burial in Russell Heights Cemetery.

Friends may call at McCombs Funeral Home after 4 p.m. today, and at the church after 10 a.m. Friday.

Birk, 85, died Monday, June 13, 1994, at Jackson Manor.

He was born Aug. 27, 1908, at Tilsit, son of Otto and Frieda Lange Birk. He and Martha Best were married March 2, 1930. She died Dec. 4, 1974. He later married Laura Voshage Sept. 16, 1979.

Birk was a farmer. He was a lifelong member of Immanuel Church, where he was a former elder, congregational president, and active in other posts. He was a member of Farm Bureau, Registered Polled Hereford Association, and former member of Cape Girardeau County Extension Council and ASCS Township Committee.

Survivors include his wife; four sons, Loyd, Orville and Glen Birk of Jackson, Donald Birk of Eldorado Springs; a daughter, Alice Ahrens of Jackson; two brothers, Edwin Birk of Gordonville, Anton Birk of Jackson; a sister, Viola Sides of Jackson; 11 grandchildren, and 16 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a son and brother.
