Mattie LaNora Shrum, 87, of Cape Girardeau died Wednesday, Dec. 28, 2016, at Chateau Girardeau.

She was born March 8, 1929, in Culpepper Mountain, Arkansas, to Jessie Olen and Maude L. Hunter. She and Cecil Shrum were married March 28, 1948, in Steele, Missouri.

Mattie worked at the Lutheran Home and Chateau Girardeau as a dietary cook over 13 years and retired in 1989.

Mattie and Cecil were married for 61 years and enjoyed spending time with their family, fishing and working in their garden.

Survivors include a son, Jim (Kim) Shrum of Panama City Beach, Florida; daughters Phyllis (Kenny) LaMar and Pam East, both of Cape Girardeau, and Lisa (Todd) Hake of St. Charles, Missouri; family member Jeanne Shrum; brothers Doyne Hunter and Clark Hunter; sisters Jeanette McLaughlin, Billie Hunt and Josephine Dickneite; grandsons Joshua LaMar, Kyle East, Nathan East and Erik East; a granddaughter, Amanda Reeves; and 12 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; granddaughter Casey LaMar; son-in-law Roger East; two brothers, Ovid and Jerry Hunter; and a sister, Bonnie Bess.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home.

The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home, with deacon Rob Huff officiating. Burial will be at noon Tuesday in the Missouri Veterans Cemetery in Bloomfield.

Memorial contributions may be given to the Arthritis Foundation.
