SCOTT CITY, Mo. -- Michael Ray Stephens, 55, of Scott City died Tuesday, March 19, 2002, at Southeast Missouri Hospital in Cape Girardeau.
He was born Jan. 7, 1947, in St. Louis, son of Charles Zenith and Violet Lorena Allen Stephens. He and Diane Gulley were married Feb. 13, 1965, in Cape Girardeau.
Stephens was a locomotive engineer 32 years with Cotton Belt Railroad and Southern Pacific Railroad.
He served with the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War, and was a paratrooper with the 101st Airborne Division in Fort Campbell, Ky.
Stephens was local chairman 17 years for Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers Local 442, and was a member of Father's Arms Fellowship.
Survivors include his wife; a son, Darren Stephens of Scott City; two daughters, Angela Miller of Jonesboro, Ill., Nichole Baker of Scott City; two brothers, John Stephens of Moore, Okla., Deon Stephens of McClure, Ill.; a sister, Barbara Barks of Jackson, Mo.; five grandchildren, Andrew and Rachael Stephens, Malorie Glasco, Makayla Miller and Morgan Baker.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother.
Friends may call at Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel in Scott City from 4-8 p.m. Friday.
Funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the chapel, with the Rev. Ken Strong and Mark Fisher officiating. Burial will be in Lightner Cemetery.
