Norma Jean Smiddy, 91, of Cape Girardeau died Tuesday, April 22, 2014, at Fountainbleau Lodge.

She was born Sept. 4, 1922, in Bell City, Mo. Norma and Alva E. Smiddy were married June 19, 1941, in Jackson. He preceded her in death Sept. 29, 1970.

Norma was a member of Bethany Baptist Church. She was a 20-year volunteer with the American Cancer Society, volunteered for Reach to Recovery 11 years, and was a 50-year member of Royal Neighbors of America. She worked at Woolworth in retail sales 12 years, Hirsch's Thriftway 18 years, and retired from Southeast Hospital housekeeping in 1991 after 10 years of service. Norma loved to be outdoors and was an avid flower gardener.

Survivors include a niece, Sheree (Robbie) Mott; a nephew, Bob Smiddy; a great-niece, Sarah Alysse Mott, all of Lakeland, Tenn.; and other nieces, nephews and friends.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Edna Bolin Smith; and a brother and sister-in-law, Sterling and Sarah Smiddy.

Visitation will be from 1 p.m. until time of service today at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home.

The funeral will be at 2 p.m. today at the funeral home, with the Rev. Donny Ford officiating. Burial will be in Cape County Memorial Park.

Memorial contributions may be given to the American Cancer Society.
