SCOTT CITY -- Funeral Mass for Paul John Diebold, Scott City Route 1, will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Augustine Catholic Church in Kelso. The Rev. Oliver Clavin will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery, with graveside rites by VFW Post 6407 of Scott City.
Friends may call at Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel in Scott City after 2 p.m. today. The rosary will be recited at 7 p.m., and Knights of Columbus service will be at 7:15.
Diebold, 70, died Thursday, Oct. 14, 1998, at St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau.
He was born Oct. 2, 1928, son of Anton and Anne Ostendorf Diebold. He first married Rose Mary Ressel May 16, 1953, at Kelso. She died Nov. 17, 1966. He later married Rita Reischman Glueck Sept. 12, 1981. She died Nov. 20, 1991.
Diebold had been a carpenter with Columbia Construction and Rufus Kluesner Construction, and had also farmed. He was a member of St. Augustine Church, and Knights of Columbus Council 6420 in Scott City.
He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.
Survivors include five daughters, Mary Beth Kreitler of Ste. Genevieve, Ann Diebold of Bridgeton, Margaret Avery of Cape Girardeau, Cathy Dye of Sikeston, Angela Heuring of New Hamburg; four sisters, Lorene Essner, Helen Menz and Claira Essner, all of Kelso, Dorothy Ressel of Cape Girardeau; 10 grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by two sons.
