ADVANCE, Mo. -- Paul Harris, 92, of Advance passed away Friday, June 24, 2016, at the Veterans Home in Cape Girardeau.

He was born Sept. 8, 1923, at Brownwood, Missouri, the son of Roy and Emma Long Harris.

Paul had worked at Railway Express in St. Louis. He was a member of First General Baptist Church in Advance.

Paul was a Veteran of the U.S. Army, serving in World War II. He proudly served our country from 1941 to 1946. In 1944, he made a landing at the Normandy invasion. He was awarded two Purple Hearts and a Bronze Star.

Paul and Veda Goolsby were united in marriage Dec. 20, 1997, at Advance and she survives of the home.

Other survivors include two stepsons, Leo (Pam) Goolsby of Advance and Melvin (Lorita) Goolsby of Zalma, Missouri; a stepdaughter, Kimberly Black of Advance; three nieces, June, Rosetta and Velma; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and a host of other family members and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his twin sister, Pauline Chance.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Morgan Funeral Chapel in Advance.

The funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the chapel, with the Rev. Dale Wiseman officiating. Burial will be at Balch Cemetery with full military rites.
