Phillip E. Owen, 83, of Cape Girardeau died Thursday, Dec. 4, 2003, at Chateau Girardeau Health Center.

He was born Nov. 14, 1920, in Batavia, N.Y., son of Elmer Eliphlet and Edith Wellington Owen. He and Jane Curtis were married Aug. 31, 1948, in Detroit, Mich.

Owen received a degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Michigan. He was employed by Standard Oil, BP, and Amoco Oil. He later worked for Panduit Corp., retiring in 1985.

He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.

Survivors include his wife; a son, Robert Owen of Chester, Ill.; a brother, John Owen of Youngstown, N.Y.; and two grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a brother.

There is no visitation or funeral.

The body was donated to Washington University in St. Louis.

Ford and Sons Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
