PERRYVILLE, Mo. -- The Rev. Gerald J. Brown, 78, of Perryville died Wednesday, Nov. 2, 2005, at St. Mary's Seminary. He was born Sept. 10, 1927, in St. Louis, son of Alva W. and Josephine McMahon Brown. Brown entered the Novitiate May 22, 1948; was ordained a deacon Oct. 7, 1956; and ordained a priest at St. Mary's of the Barrens in Perryville May 22, 1957, by Cardinal Joseph E. Ritter. He received a master's degree in Spanish from the University of Mexico in 1962...

PERRYVILLE, Mo. -- The Rev. Gerald J. Brown, 78, of Perryville died Wednesday, Nov. 2, 2005, at St. Mary's Seminary.

He was born Sept. 10, 1927, in St. Louis, son of Alva W. and Josephine McMahon Brown.

Brown entered the Novitiate May 22, 1948; was ordained a deacon Oct. 7, 1956; and ordained a priest at St. Mary's of the Barrens in Perryville May 22, 1957, by Cardinal Joseph E. Ritter. He received a master's degree in Spanish from the University of Mexico in 1962.

He served in Chile from 1964 to 1998, and was pastor at St. Henry Church in Charleston, Mo., from 1998 to 2003.

Survivors include a brother, Thomas Brown of St. Louis; two sisters, Joan Butler and Frances Brown of St. Louis.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters and a brother.

Friends may call at St. Mary's of the Barrens Church from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. today, and Saturday from 8 a.m. until time of service. A prayer service will be held at 7:30 tonight.

Funeral Mass will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the church, with the Rev. Raymond VanDorpe officiating. Burial will be in Vincentian Community Cemetery
