It is with great sadness that the family of Richard Harrington of Cape Girardeau announces his passing Monday, Aug. 24, 2020, at his home at the age of 80 years.

Rick was born Dec. 13, 1939, in St. Louis to Margaret Fitzgerald.

He graduated from Cairo (Illinois) High School in 1958. He was a grant writer for Alexander County (Illinois) Housing Authority before his retirement.

He will be lovingly remembered by his children, Richard (Tracy) Harrington Jr. and Teresa (Nick) Livesay. He will also be fondly remembered by his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and by his sisters, Margaret Fitzgerald and Pauline Whiteside, and brother, Robert (Julie) Fitzgerald.

Rick was preceded in death by his wife of 59 years, Sue Harrington, on Nov. 22, 2018; parents, Robert and Margaret Fitzgerald; young daughter, Amy Suzanne in 1962; and infant sister, Mary Elizabeth.

Cremation will be accorded. A celebration of life will be held at a later date.

Memorial donations in Rick's memory may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
