Rita Irene Braun Schmidt, 93, of Cape Girardeau died Tuesday, March 27, 2012, at Saint Francis Medical Center.

She was born Oct. 17, 1918, to Arthur E. and Emma M. Baumgart Braun. She married Walter Schmidt at St. Mary's Cathedral on June 11, 1947. He preceded her in death Jan. 28, 2009.

Rita was a member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church.

She was a veteran of the U.S. Navy.

Survivors include five nieces, Sharon Braun, Jeanne Braun Roth, Kathleen Braun Sanders, Donna Schmidt Orsburn, Mary Kay Schmidt; three nephews, Fred Braun, Michael Braun and Mark Schmidt.

She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; three brothers, Fred Braun, Charles Braun and Brother Michael Braun, Oblite Father; five sisters, Loyola Watts, Sister Mary Teresa Braun, Anna Braun, Sister Mary Clara Braun and Sister Rose Ann Braun; a niece, Mary Braun Koenig.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until time of service Saturday at Crain Funeral Home.

The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Kizito Wenani officiating. Interment will be in St. Mary's Cemetery with military honors.

Memorials may be made to St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church and will be accepted at the funeral home.
