Robert J. "Junior" Green, 80, of Jackson died Thursday, May 4, 2006, at Saint Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau.
He was born Aug. 24, 1925, in Jackson, son of Robert George and Maggie Elizabeth Grindstaff Green. He and Nellie M. Statler were married Feb. 6, 1948.
Green was employed at LaPierre and Sawyer 12 years, and was employed 28 years with the city of Jackson including working as a lab technician at the disposal plant. He was a member of Altenthal-Joerns American Legion Post 158, and VFW Post 10495 in Jackson.
He served with the 24th Division of the U.S. Army Transportation Corps during World War II.
Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Alice Welker of Chaffee, Mo.; two brothers, J.D. and Dayton Green of Jackson; three sisters, Virgie Smith of Jackson, Ruth Mayfield of Millersville, Annie Pruitt of Cape Girardeau; a granddaughter, Leslie (Scott) Horman of Chaffee; and two great-grandchildren, Garner and Griffin Horman.
Friends may call at Cracraft-Miller Funeral Home from 4 to 8 p.m. today. An American Legion service will be held at 7.
The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Ralph Duffner officiating. Burial will be in Russell Heights Cemetery with full military honors.
