CHARLESTON -- Robert Henry Kent, 75, of Charleston died Wednesday, March 29, 2000, at Charleston Manor.

He was born Dec. 11, 1924, in Walls, Miss., son of Julius and Flora Brown Kent. He married Emma Banks.

Survivors include his wife; eight sons, Robert Kent Jr. and Julius Kent of Michigan City, Ind., John Kent of Oceanside, Calif., James Kent of Cape Girardeau, Anthony and Thomas Kent of Blytheville, Ark., Wilbert McCain of Charleston, Donald Ingram of Ft. Wayne, Ind.

Also surviving are six daughters, Shirley Johnson of Oceanside, Ernestine Upsher of Michigan City, Clementine Strayhorn, Debra Kerr, Pam Jones and Yvonne Cassel of Charleston; a stepson, James Kent of Michigan City; a stepdaughter, Maxine Brown of Oceanside; two brothers, Albert and Odell Kent of Charleston; 70 grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Friends may call at Sparks Funeral Home from 7-8 p.m. today.

Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Opportunity Church of God in Christ, with the Rev. Steve Betts officiating. Burial will be in Oak Grove Cemetery.
