THEBES, Ill. -- Robert B. "Goober" Snell, 80, of Thebes died Wednesday, April 7, 2004, at Life Care Center in Cape Girardeau.
He was born May 31, 1923, in Gale, Ill., son of Charley and Bessie Moore Snell. He and Betty Thompson were married Feb. 9, 1948.
Mr. Snell was a retired laborer with Local 773. He was a member of Carroll P. Foster VFW Post 3455. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and gardening.
Survivors include his wife; three daughters, Beverly Snell and fiance Charles Northcutt of Cape Girardeau, Charlotte (Ron) Woolf of Thebes, Janice (Tim) Parker of Tamms, Ill.; two brothers, Raymond Snell of Thebes, Lloyd Eugene Snell of Olympia, Wash.; two grandsons, Michael Honey and Eric Hill of Thebes; a granddaughter, Kara Foeste of McClure, Ill.; two great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and other relatives.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Carey Lee Snell in 1976, and a brother, George Snell.
Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. today at Crain Funeral Home in Tamms.
The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Curtis Alderson, Rev. Earnest Brown and Rev. Carl Fisher officiating. Interment will be in Rose Hill Cemetery at Thebes, with full military honors by VFW Post 3455.
